ABC's of West Market School of Early Education

Welcome to the wonderful world of learning at
West Market Early School of Early Education!

We are excited about working with you and your child, and we look forward to a great school year together. There are many fun, exciting, and challenging adventures planned for this year. The information below is intended to provide you with basic information about the school including procedures and routines, as well as give you a peek at what your child will experience!
A Absences – If you know of any absences ahead of time, please let the teacher know. Whether you know about an absence ahead of time or not, please send either a doctor’s excuse or a note explaining the reason for the absence when your child returns to school.
B Be on time, and be ready to learn through play.
C Clothing – Young children thrive on creativity and free expression. In order to facilitate this and enhance your child’s learning, we will be involved in many different art, music, and outdoor activities. Although we do our best to be careful, there are times that your child’s clothes may get a little messy. Paint, markers, water, clay, and other art supplies are often used.
D Departure – School dismisses each day at 2:15 PM.
E E-mail – E-mail is a vital communication tool at West Market School of Early Education. We will use e-mail to send out classroom newsletters, reminders, and updates. If you are interested in using e-mail as a communication tool, please give your email address to your child’s teacher.
F Finding Lost Items – The school’s lost-and-found is located in the office near the front entrance of the building. Each year, it tends to fill up quickly! In order to prevent your child’s items from finding a new home, please be sure to label easily misplaced items. This includes jackets, hats, and backpacks.
G Gym Days – Most days we will use the playground for our outside play. However, when the weather is rainy or extremely hot/cold, we will use the gym. We believe it is important for children to spend some time engaged in physical activity.
H Homework – Classes do not have weekly homework assignments. We will send home family activities and game ideas that you may play with your child. If, for any reason, we believe your child needs extra support at home in any area, we will notify you.
I Invitations – Please do not send birthday party invitations to school unless the entire class is invited to the party. On your child’s birthday, he or she may bring a special store-bought treat to school for the class. For the safety of all children, we ask that hard candy not be sent. Please consider healthy treats!
J Jewels – Your children are precious and valuable assets to our school and community.
K Kids in Our School – It is our policy to respect the privacy of every child and family in our school. As a result, information regarding a particular child may only be shared with his/her parents/guardians. We appreciate your understanding.
L Late arrival/pick-up – Prompt arrival/pick-up ensures confidence within children and assists teachers. If a child arrives at school after arrival time, the child must be signed in at the front desk. If an adult arrives after the designated pick-up time to pick up a child, the child will be in the front office. The adult must sign the child out.
M Mrs. McKenzie, Principal – If you have questions, comments, or concerns, you are always welcome to contact me. I will get back to you within 24 hours. Call: 260-5200 or e-mail: [email protected]
N Notes – For safety reasons, your child must have a note if they are going home or leaving school in a way which differs from their normal routine. For example, if they are going to be picked up by someone new, we will need permission from you in writing. The individual will be asked to show a picture I.D.
O Outside Playtime – Physical activities are an important component of early childhood education. We will try to get outside as much as possible. Please be sure your child is dressed appropriately.
P Peanuts – West Market School of Early Education is a peanut-free school.
Q Quality Time – Please remember to spend quality time with your child each day.
R Registration – Registration for the 2023-24 school year will be in February.
S Signing Out – Your child’s safety is important to us. Only those individuals listed on the child’s pick-up list will be allowed to sign them out unless we have permission from the parent or guardian. We understand that this may be an inconvenience at times, but we hope you understand that we have your child’s safety in mind when we created this rule.
T Take-Home Folders – Your child will receive a take-home folder. One pocket in the folder is labeled “Keep at Home” and the other is labeled “Return to School.” This pocket is where you can place notes your child needs to deliver to school or weekly fees with a note including the date, child’s name, and teacher’s name. It is important that folders come to school every day.
U United – We are a team working together to provide a quality education for your child.
V Visitors/Volunteers – We welcome parents, grandparents, etc. to come to our school to visit and/or volunteer in the classrooms. All guests, including familiar faces, are asked to sign in at the front desk.
W Wish List Items – It takes all kinds of materials to make learning fun. At the beginning of the year, teachers will post items they would love to have donated, such as paper plates or Kleenex. Any item you donate is greatly appreciated!
X X-tra Clothing – Bathroom and other accidents do occur with young children. We ask that you send an extra set of clothing (underwear, socks, shirt, and shorts/pants) in a gallon-sized zip loc bag labeled with your child’s name. This extra set of clothes will remain at school “just in case!”Yearly calendar-A calendar of holidays and school closings for the year is included in the information packet you received when you registered your child.
